This week was slow. I had to find Joe and Faith to set up the schedule to work with them during my internship. We then decided that I would meet Faith at the Help Desk on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 9 A.M. to 11 A.M. in the morning. I first met with Faith on Friday morning where I met the rest of the Help Desk crew, Ryan, Scott, and Robert. I started out by walking around with Ryan taping orange cards on some of the laser printers in villa. These cards have information for the staff on how to order their printer cartridges and what type of cartridge is needed for each specific printer. Ryan explained to me that now the staff has to order the cartridges through the internet, making this a cheaper way than the way they were ordering cartridges before. He also explained to me that the cartridges that we wrote down on the orange cards actually print more pages than other cartridges for those printers. When we got back to the Help Desk, I went with Robert to Loyola to put some cable extensions for the mice at a chemistry classroom. Robert explained to me that Sister Marie Cooper had told them that for some reason, the cables for the mice where too short. When we got to the classroom, we found out that the wrong cables had been ordered. We had cables for USB mice, but these mice were not USB mice. We then went to a classroom were the “dead computers” are placed. He then explained to me that the computers that were placed there, does not necessarily mean that they didn’t work anymore, but that they were no longer under a warranty. We looked for cables that we could use, but found none. We then went back to the Help Desk and looked for some cables and mice that could work. We found five cables for the current mice that were in the classroom, and five mice that could work with the USB cables that we already had. We went back and placed the cables and the mice, and checked that the mice worked. We had to check the mice worked to make sure that the deep freeze let the mice worked, because since it is a protection software, sometimes it doesn’t let changes work on computers. We checked the computers and all the mice worked. Robert explained that everything probably worked because the keyboards are with a USB connector, but we still had to check just in case. When we got back, it was almost 11, so Robert showed me how he erased accounts of students that were no longer in school. He showed me how he had to look up their name for the z drive as well as their names on the network. After that, it was pretty much time for me to go. I had a good first day at my internship.

First Week
My first week in school was a little hectic. Classes started, I was trying to get everything needed for the classes, and in between all of that, trying to find Faith, Joe, and Mrs. Martin to talk to them about the internship. It seemed that every time I went, they were somewhere else. I was finally able to talk to Faith who told me that I needed to speak to Joe. When I got to talk to Joe, he asked me to find out from Mrs. Martin how many hours I needed to work with them before setting up a schedule. Now I know that I should have gone to Mrs. Martin before going to anyone else. When I spoke to Mrs. Martin, she explained to me that I am required to do 60 hours total, write blogs every week, and she also gave me a book to look at and even give myself homeworks from. When I got back to talk to Joe, he had already left, so I just looked at the book A Guide to Computer User Support for Help Desk and Support Specialists that Mrs. Martin lend me. It looks very interesting. Next week I will set up a schedule and finally start actually working with the help desk. I'm really excited to start working with the Help Desk next week!!!
